3 Ways to Upcycle your Dad’s Old shirt into Trendy, Fashionable Outfits!

Whoever thought your dad’s old, extra-large size 42 shirt would came in handy one day to make you look like a fashionista who just walked off the ramp!

Two of the biggest trends of Spring Summer 2017 are ‘Oversize’ and ‘androgynous shirt dresses’! So I decided to fuse the two together and create 3 very fashionable and very wearable looks using my dad’s old white shirt.

Now I know shirt dresses are already available aplenty and soon these trends will easily be available in the market. But this DIY is going to do two things:

  • Let you enjoy this 2017 trend, right now!
  • Save you a lot of money that you’d have otherwise paid a brand… and help you create something uniquely your own!

So here’s 3 looks that I created using one single shirt that I flicked off my dad’s wardrobe! (had to go for Dad’s shirt coz Mr. Wolf’s clothes kinda fit me almost like my own – possibly the only time I wished that he was a couple of sizes larger :P!)

Look 1: Layer up

Wear a front open, loose shrug and roll up the sleeves of both together!

Add a funky brooch or an earring for a button… and voila!

I’m wearing this old light woollen shrug from Mango and have used one of my favourite pair of gypsy  earrings to add as a touch through the button-holes!

Over-the-knee boots never fail to add that classy, wintery touch to any outfit and this gorgeous pair in suede from Dorothy Perkins, does exactly that… while the evergreen Azur Damier checks of Louis Vuitton put the entire colour scheme into perspective.

I’d wear this for an evening out, a lunch date or even for a shopping day out with the girls!

Look 2: Colour Blush!

Add a long scarf to the shirt and secure it using a belt. It not only adds that blush of colour to your outfit… it also gives it some form and definition.

And the best part is… you can keep changing the scarves and belts to have a new outfit each time! 😉

I’m wearing a hand painted chiffon scarf from Printed Village which I picked up from Nordstorm on my last trip to the US, with a Gucci belt, a pair of black platform heels from Charles & Keith and my classic epileather speedy form Louis Vuitton.

I’d wear this to a casual party, a date night or even for a semi-formal dinner invitation.

Look 3: Campus Pop!

Now while I’m waaayyy past the college age… I’ve been getting a lot of requests to do some campus looks and so here’s one for you guys!

Since it’s the onset of winter, this look I’ve created for those slightly chilly days when you want just that little bit of warmth and a little more of an androgynous punch. (Think Mumbai winter… & not the northern parts of the world please!)

I decided to keep this one quite kitsch by adding loads of brooches all over the shirt to let the colours pop… while the ankle length sneakers from Puma, the heavy knit scarf from Vans and the over-sized, anti-fit of the shirt stand for androgyny, comfort and funk!

Brooches for me are like my personal little go-to saviours that help lift any boring outfit! I love collecting them and pick up a few from every place that I travel to! The ones that I’ve used here are from different flea markets in Italy and from the Red Dot design museum store in Singapore.
